Healthway Medical Centre provides assessment for minor surgery in Malta, including small superficial cyst removal, selected abscess incision and drainage, wound management and suturing. Suture removal, dressings and follow-up support ongoing care. Suitability depends on the size, depth and location of the problem, your medical history and the facilities needed for safe treatment.
Small superficial cyst removal
A cyst is assessed before removal to confirm the likely diagnosis and suitable technique. Selected superficial cysts may be removed under local anaesthesia. An inflamed or infected cyst may need initial treatment and later review rather than immediate definitive removal. The doctor discusses scarring, recurrence and whether a tissue sample or specialist opinion is appropriate.
Abscess incision and drainage
An abscess contains a collection of pus. Selected superficial abscesses may need a small incision to allow drainage, with local anaesthesia where appropriate. Size, location, surrounding infection and general health affect the plan. Some patients also need antibiotics, additional investigations or hospital treatment. Follow-up checks healing and whether further dressing care is needed.
Wound management and suturing
Wound assessment considers contamination, retained material, the time since injury and possible damage to deeper structures. Not every wound should be closed with stitches. The clinician selects a suitable approach and reviews tetanus protection where relevant. Deep injuries, uncontrolled bleeding or suspected tendon, nerve or blood-vessel damage require urgent escalation.
Recovery and ongoing care
Local anaesthesia reduces pain during suitable procedures, although the injection may sting. Bruising, bleeding, infection, altered sensation and scarring are possible. Follow the written aftercare advice and planned review or suture-removal date. Increasing redness, swelling, pain, discharge, fever or wound separation should prompt medical advice.
