General Practice is often the right starting point when you have a new symptom, need follow-up of an existing condition, want medicines reviewed, or are unsure which specialist or investigation is appropriate. Healthway aims to provide practical, person-centred care and to coordinate further testing or referral when needed.
What happens during a GP consultation?
- Your symptoms, medical history, regular medicines, allergies and relevant family history are reviewed.
- A focused physical examination is performed when appropriate.
- The next step may include treatment, a prescription, blood tests, ECG, ultrasound, monitoring, follow-up or referral.
- Not every symptom needs a test. Investigations are selected when they are likely to change diagnosis or management.
Medication review and prescriptions
Bring an up-to-date list or photographs of your medicines, including over-the-counter products and supplements. A medication review can check indication, dose, interactions, side effects and whether monitoring is required. Repeat prescriptions remain subject to clinical review and prescribing safety.
When primary care is not enough
Primary care is designed to manage a broad range of undifferentiated problems and coordinate further care. Some symptoms require specialist assessment, hospital investigation or emergency treatment rather than routine clinic management.
