What happened?
In the phase 3 VALOR trial, adults with dermatomyositis received brepocitinib 30 mg, 15 mg or placebo for 52 weeks while standard therapies continued and glucocorticoids were tapered. The 30 mg dose was superior to placebo on the primary Total Improvement Score and key secondary outcomes.
Why does it matter?
Dermatomyositis can cause disabling muscle weakness, severe skin disease and systemic complications. A successful oral targeted treatment could provide an important steroid-sparing option.
